Course Description:
Running away from placement is a significant problem for adolescents referred to out
of home care. Research has shown that as many as one-third of adolescents will be discharged prematurely
from residential treatment due to runaway behavior. Until recently, little was known about the characteristics
of clients who engage in this behavior, and few efforts have been made to identify effective treatment interventions.
This course will provide participants with the latest research findings on runaway behavior, provide specific
recommendations to improve placement outcomes, and offer concrete treatment recommendations and effective interventions for
residential treatment providers.
